August 11, 2025 – Torry Miller: Food Plot Architecture

Day two here in Illinois, and we made big progress with the dozer. This entire plot behind me is brand new — we pushed everything back, cleared it down to the dirt, and now it’s been limed, fertilized, and tilled. We’ll be planting it with Evolved seed to kickstart its first season.

The plan is to set a Redneck blind on a 10-foot stand overlooking this spot. I’ve cut access lanes like spokes on a wheel, with fingers running 50 to 120 yards back into bedding cover, all funneling deer toward the blind. My access will come in from the backside through thick cover so I can slip in quietly without bumping deer.

This is the first hard Redneck blind I’ve put on the property, and I couldn’t be more excited. Honestly, it feels like I’m playing food plot architect — a little inspiration from watching the Drurys and Deercast. I may even drop a scrape tree in the middle for variety and to give the deer a focal point.

Plenty of edge, plenty of cover, and now a brand-new plot. Tomorrow’s plan: get stands hung and cameras out once these food plots are wrapped up.
