July 18, 2025 – Jesse Staab: Green to Grain Setup in Illinois
Well, we’re back here on my home farm in Illinois, and I’m standing in one of our Clover Pro plots. It’s filling in really nice—just needs a mow to clean it up. Behind me is one of our Redneck blinds, and right here in front is a water hole. What’s cool about this setup is the transition from green (the clover) to grain (our standing corn just beyond). Deer love that edge, especially as the season kicks off.
This is one of my favorite spots on the farm, and it’s shaping up well. We’ve got two, maybe three bucks that should be five years or older this season, and I’m hoping to catch them on one of the Stealth Cams today or tomorrow. Once we get some intel, we’ll put a solid game plan together.
The farm’s almost dialed in—just a few final touches left. One of the last things on the list is planting some fall greens. There’s been a ton of browse pressure along the edge of this plot, so the plan is to mow it, hit it with some spray, and come back with something new and green for fall attraction.
We’ll see how it plays out, but we’re feeling good about what’s happening here. Updates to come!
