June 30, 2025 – Jeff Klump: The Perfect Tree Stand Spot - MO

Man, sometimes things just click. I was out walking this little pinch point today and the second I saw this cluster of trees, I knew it—perfect, perfect, perfect. Deercast is showing I can hunt this with a north, northwest, or west wind. North is pushing it, but still doable.

As I eased in here, it was clear this is a main travel corridor. The farmer is even going to let me buy back a little bit of the crop next to the cornfield, which is going to make this spot even better.

The access is dialed. I can slip right in the back side of this tree line, climb up into the Novix, and boom—20-yard shot. I can shoot the creek bottom, I’ve got a field edge right in front of me, and that strip of standing crop is staying put.
Honestly, I thought this looked great from the Deercast aerials—but boots on the ground tells the full story. It’s even better than I imagined.

I’ll be throwing out a little mineral and setting up a Black Widow mock scrape soon. Then I’ll back out and let the trail cams do their thing. Can’t wait to see what shows up.

Transition Line Tactics

I’m standing on a solid little lane where I’m planning to hang a Novix—this is shaping up to be a really good rut spot. There’s a creek running just behind me, and I’m tucked into some great trees right on the field edge. From this setup, I’ll be able to shoot both the creek bottom and the field edge, giving me the kind of coverage you dream about.

What really caught my eye are the tracks—big buck track right here in the dirt. You can see trails all the way up and down this edge.
About 100 yards back, this cornfield transitions into beans—a perfect transition zone for movement. I’m not 100% sure where this buck is bedding, but I’d bet money he’s tucked somewhere along the creek.

Missouri’s early season kicks off September 15th, so there’s a real shot to make something happen early this year. Everything’s lining up—keep checking back.
