May 23, 2025 - Long Day in Kentucky
It’s just about midnight on Friday night, and I’m finally heading home after what’s been close to a 21-hour day. I left around 3 AM this morning to get to Kentucky, and now I’ve got a few minutes left on the road before pulling into the driveway.
A lot of folks think what I do is all fun—and they’re not wrong. It is awesome. But it also comes with long days, a ton of sweat, and sacrifice. And honestly, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I love this lifestyle. It’s demanding, but it’s rewarding.
Big thanks to my wife, Cheryl, for holding down the fort while I chase this passion. She’s incredible with the kids and makes it possible for me to do what I do. I’m grateful beyond words—and even more grateful that she still chooses to stick with me through the chaos.
Today’s Work in the Field
I spent the day working two properties in Kentucky:
• ✅ Hung four new mineral sites
• ✅ Set up Stealth Cams to begin inventorying deer movement
• ✅ Checked and adjusted 4–5 tree stands that Ben previously hung—mainly just loosened the straps and ensured they’re still safe for fall
• ✅ Sprayed five food plot areas, totaling around 3 acres between both properties
This will actually be the first time we’ve done food plots on these farms. The goal today was simply to knock down the grass so we can prep, till, and plant later this summer. We’re not 100% locked in on what we’ll be planting yet, but we’re planning on fall plots to create solid draw for deer as the season rolls in.
As far as deer go, we don’t have anything giant on camera yet, but Ben mentioned a few solid bucks that could be on the hit list this fall. Either way, I’m looking forward to learning more about the properties and watching how the herd shapes up over the next few months.
Memorial Day Weekend Thoughts
As we head into Memorial Day weekend, I just want to take a moment to acknowledge what this holiday truly means. It’s easy to enjoy the extra day off, but even more important to remember why we have it.
Let’s honor the men and women who gave their lives so we can live freely, chase our dreams, and enjoy time with our families. Their sacrifice is the foundation for everything we’re able to do today. I’m deeply thankful—and I hope you are too.
Wishing you all a safe, meaningful, and restful Memorial Day weekend. Appreciate the blessings. Make the most of them.
