July 12, 2025 – Dewaine Jones: Stealthcam & Water Hole Setup

What’s up, everyone? Dewaine here. Just checking in from my property on this hot July day.

Up until now, I didn’t have a water source on this property, and I knew that could be the missing piece when it comes to drawing deer consistently. So, I got to work creating a little water hole—nothing crazy, just enough to give deer a reason to hang around more often.

To keep tabs on it, I put up a Stealth Cam solar pack. I’m hoping this gives me long-term power and a steady feed of what’s stopping by. It’s a pretty slick little setup, and I’m pumped to see what kind of deer this might pull in over the next few weeks.

Fingers crossed this becomes a killer draw during those hot early season sits. We’ll see what shows up—stay tuned!

Back on the farm today checking in on one of my go-to spots. It’s mid-July and I’m revisiting a scrape that’s had a ton of history for me. This is the same bench where I killed a solid 8-point in the past, and the setup is dialed.

I’ve got a Novix stand just up the ridge, and what makes this spot special is the way the deer naturally travel around this bench. They almost have to hit this scrape on their way through, and there’s a thick bedding area just beyond it. It’s a great little pinch.

Last year, I was after a really good buck that lived on this scrape. He hit it over and over again, and I’m hoping we get something similar this year. I freshened it up with Black Widow Branch Butter and have a Stealth Cam watching it now.

We’ll see if the summer traffic starts picking up. Feels like something good is going to go down here again this fall.
